About This Blog

Hello! This is my corner of the Internet. It is the space that I use to talk about... well, whatever strikes my fancy. I talk about gaming, and anime, and feminism, and politics, and fan fiction, and translation, and... well, as you can see, a whole lot of things. I have... let's call it a widely varied set of interests, so as a result this is kind of becoming a very random blog.

Of course, I doubt all of that is interesting to every person that comes by here. Probably the majority of the things I post about here will be political in nature, because that's what I usually feel an urge to rant about. If that's not your thing, well, I apologize.

Less frequently, I post things I've tried to translate, or links to fan fiction I've written. I provide notes as well for such things, to give people an idea of just what was running through my head when I wrote and/or translated as I did.

Very rarely, something in anime or gaming will spring out at me and demand to be written about. That's very rare simply because I get that sense from a lot of things, and don't have the time to deal with half of the "you could blog about this" impulses that I get. So only the really major stuff gets attention. And there's not much of that.

On names
I probably have a few things I should work on with regards to a slight habit of mine towards the pretentious.

Or, put differently, "where the hell did 'Starlight and Shadows' come from?"

In all honesty, I chose the name on a lark, really. For the latter half, well... "darkness does not always equate to evil, just as light does not always bring good." No, I have no idea where that quote came from. But to me, there's almost a sense of independence, even perhaps freedom, in the idea that I stand in shadow. It's... a little hard to explain; I don't think I can really do so in any greater detail.

For the rest, I've always had somewhat of an unreasonable fondness for a good, clear, moonlit night... it used to be that looking up at the moon was something that calmed me, and for all I know it still is, except I haven't gotten the chance a lot lately. Unfortunately, "Moonlight and Shadows" doesn't have the alliteration going for it, and a starlit sky can be just as calming and pretty, so you all got "Starlight and Shadows".

Actually, the Japanese present around here may have influenced matters. Lately, I've taken a liking to the "name" (in quotes because it's not really a name, except possibly in my own mind) Hoshizora Zankou, which is literally "afterglow of the starry sky". No, it doesn't really make sense, but I don't think that was high on my list of priorities when I came up with this in the first place. Needless to say, I'm also using that (at least, the latter half) as the name under which I post.
